Friends of Whiskeytown, Inc.
Projects and Achievements
Projects and activites accomplished through the generous donations and grants of many individuals and organizations:
- Support for the Artist-in-Residence program.
- Purchase of ten (10) new kayaks to support the free kayak program.
- Sponsorship of a Student Conservation Association (SCA) volunteer to provide trail work on the James K. Carr Trail.
- Purchase of two large canvas tents for the National Park Service and Student Conservation Association trail crews use.
- Assisted with the SCA backcountry trail camp during the construction of the James K. Carr Trail
- Support for Pick Up Lake Litter Day (PULL), an annual event.
- Support for the annual Old Time Christmas celebration at the Camden House.
- Support for the annual Volunteer Recognition celebration.
Shasta County Anti-Tobacco Fund Community Grant Program - 2007:
- Installation of twelve benches, two picnic tables and vista point
masonry work on the James K. Carr, Brandy Creek and Boulder Creek waterfall trails.
- Waterfall Week Celebration media, marketing, brochures and banners.
The Shasta Regional Community Foundation Celebration Grant - 2007:
- Street banners for the Waterfall Week.
Lemurian Shasta Classic Bike Race Donation - 2006:
- Construction of a new bridge on the Brandy Creek Trail.
Wal-Mart Grant - 2006:
- Funds for food purchase for Pick Up Lake Litter Day (PULL).
McConnell Foundation Grant - 2003:
- Funded the 40th Anniversary Celebration of President Kennedy's Dedication of Whiskeytown Dam with events at
Whiskeytown Dam and Turtle Bay.
- Collection and archiving of historic papers, films and photographs of President Kennedy's 1963 dedication of Whiskeytown Dam.
Creation of a DVD recounting the historical 1963 dedication.
Redding Mountain Bike Club Donation:
- New trail signage throughout Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.
